Continuing the Tradition of the Herm Edward Football Camp
SEASIDE, Calif. – June 17, 2019 – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) are excited to announce the 9th Annual Johnson-Toney Football Camp at Monterey Peninsula Community College June 24-27, 2019. This free, 4 day, non-contact football camp highlights the BGCMC’s Healthy Lifestyles initiative, addressing a major area of concern for America’s youth – childhood obesity.
The camp is directed by former Philadelphia Eagles Wide Receiver and current President and CEO for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, Ron Johnson, along with his former Eagles teammate Anthony Toney. Monterey High School Alumni, Harold and Henry Lusk, who starred at the University of Utah, will participate as Field Commissioners.
The Boys & Girls Clubs continue the tradition of the Herm Edwards Football Camp which dates back to 1995, providing summer sports camps for kids of all backgrounds. Johnson states “We’ve created a program that emphasizes healthy habits, friendly competition and teamwork. The camp activities include a Combine, 6 football skills stations, scrimmages, teambuilding games, guest speakers and lunch daily. Volunteer coaches emphasize good sportsmanship and fair play at all times. The camp is a labor of love from our coaches and the unsung heroes working behind the scenes to support the youth of this community!”
Herm Edwards adds, “I’m pleased that Ron and Anthony have kept the camp going strong for the past 8 years. They continue to provide a free, first class football camp experience for kids of all backgrounds.”
Space is limited to the first 400 youth aged 9-14, living in Monterey County. Bus transportation is available from both the Salinas and the Seaside Boys & Girls Clubs. The transportation schedule and registration forms are available online at www.bgcmc.org. Registration forms can also be picked up at local youth centers.
