Leadership MJMichael L. Jackson Ed.D., President & CEO

As President & CEO, Dr. Jackson is responsible for all aspects of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County, overseeing an operation with 80 employees and a budget of 4.0 million dollars.  He is driven by a passion for helping youth and providing opportunities for young people to succeed.

Dr. Jackson comes to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County from the world of higher education.  He served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Professor of Higher Education at the University of Southern California for 18 years.  He developed strong partnerships with the deans of USC’s College and its 13 professional schools.  He spearheaded the construction and fundraising for a state of the art campus center, a new student health center, and two residential colleges. A program to support lesbian, gay, and transgendered students was established, an initiative to support veterans was created, the number of student organizations rose from 350 to over 600, and a large-scale university wide arts and culture program was established. He spearheaded fundraising in the division of student affairs which totaled over $60M raised domestically and in Asia, including a $10.5M gift to establish and endow the Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity, a program designed to support students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences.

Dr. Jackson came to USC after a 15-year career at Stanford University where he served in a number of key leadership roles, including Dean of Students, Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, and Assistant Director of Stanford Overseas Studies Programs. Before Stanford he served as a staff associate to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he oversaw institutional multicultural academic and social support enrichment programs.

Dr. Jackson served a six-year term as a Commissioner of the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WASC) and as a member of 15 university accreditation teams.  Governor Gray Davis appointed him a public member of the California Education Facilities Authority, the state body on which he served for 10 years, that approves bonds for private colleges and universities in California.
