The Central California Alliance for Health (CCAH) Grant awarded to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County supports and promotes opportunities for youth and their families to be more physically active and to better support healthy food decisions. Twice a week the Sports, Fitness & Recreation (SFR) team has a Triple Play Challenge for the youth to engage in. The most recent family night was based on Triple Play Challenges and Healthy Habits. In the gymnasium, a soccer and track & field challenge was set up for the families to try with their children while the Teen Center hosted a Healthy Habits lesson. One of the games families enjoyed playing is Charades Kicks. Combining relay races, soccer drills, and charades the game physically motivates youth while encouraging critical thinking and teamwork. Staff demonstrated and provided ingredients to create a healthy snack dessert consisting of coconut flakes, chocolate chips, and honey.
