Since 2022, Marlene has been a passionate advocate for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) initiatives. As the STEAM Specialist at the Salinas Club, she takes pride in planning and facilitating innovative curriculum that sparks curiosity among Club members. Chemistry lessons are Marlene’s favorite to facilitate and members eagerly join in, especially when experiments are fast reacting like Elephant Toothpaste. Elephant toothpaste is a foaming chemical reaction that resembles a giant tube of toothpaste, caused by mixing hydrogen peroxide, yeast warm water and dish soap. Members are always amazed by this fun experiment and Marlene believes hands-on learning is the best way to learn. Marlene loves to see when members continue their journey with BGCMC, staying engaged with the Club as they transition into high school and beyond.
